Lakawon Island | Philippines: Oh, Rainy Sunday!

StartFragmentLakawon is a banana-shaped island in the coast of Cadiz in the Northern part of Negros Occidental.EndFragment

The biggest floating bar in Asia will also be found in this island, the Tawhai. This is one of the newest attractions in Region 6. The island possesses white beach (but not as white as the other beaches I'd already visited like Kalanggaman), unspoiled water and an amazing view! I am sure this is really perfect for a summer escapade especially if you get to experience this island on a sunny day which is contrary to our experience! The weather has been unpredictable this month. Although July is part of the rainy season, we still tried our luck and hoped that Mr Bright Sun would come out, but it didn't.

Lakawon Island Resort and Spa is in my list to hopefully visit before the end of the year and it did happen! By seeing all other blogs about this island, I was really impressed. However, the island is far different now with new facilities built around the area. The entrance rate is okay as well as the access for Tawhai. "Okay" because maybe everyone can afford it but I am unsure if the experience you get from Tawhai and on the island is worth it? I think "worth" will depend on how you utilize your stay in the island. From my experience, it may have been a little difference considering that it was raining. But nonetheless, it was a fun and unforgettable experience that I enjoyed because of the person I was with.

We just spent few hours in the island because we needed to catch the last ferry back to Iloilo.

How to get there:

  1. From Iloilo, at about 6:30 in the morning you take Wesam Express bound for Bacolod. It is an hour travel and you will arrive in Bacolod by 7:30 AM.

  2. Take the jeep to North Bus Terminal (Ceres Terminal) - fare costs around PHP 30.00

  3. Take the Ceres bus bound for Cadiz, you then tell the driver that you are going to Lakawon and ask them to drop you off at the tricycle stand (toda). Don't worry, they surely know where to drop you off. The trip takes approximately 2 hours and costs around PHP 100.00

  4. Take the tricycle bound for Lakawon Port, PHP 120.00

  5. At the port, pay your entrance fee (PHP 280.00) at window #1. They will give you and number and the pumpboat driver will call you number to tell you which boat till take you to the island. The island is just 15 minutes away.

  6. Should you decide to go to Tawhai FLoating Bar, you pay at window #2 or you can also pay at the island. (Entrance fee is PHP 250.00)

When we reached the island, we headed to Tawhai Floating Bar. The admin officers in the island will instruct you on where to wait for the boat that will bring you the the bar. As expected, all beds and couches were wet. But it is okay, we were still there to enjoy our stay!

We left the island around 2:00 PM and reached Bacolod at 4:00 PM just in time to take the 4:45 Ocenjet trip bound for Iloilo.
